CHARACTER DESIGN MADE EASY!

This project based class is intended for beginner to intermediate artists looking to improve their character design skills.

Through the class, we'll delve deep into what makes an appealing character design, from how to come up with interesting ideas, shape design to portfolio tips.

By the end of the course prospect students will have quite a few portfolio pieces ranging from a strong lineup of characters, turnarounds, expression and movement sheets!

This is a homework and feedback heavy class. Please make sure you are able to invest the time and energy needed for it (aprox. 10+ hrs per week)

In this class, I'll show my process to come up with interesting ideas for projects and how I go about searching for references!

We will go deep into what make a character unique, we'll talk about character traits such as personality, body types, and various approaches to start designing our cast!

This class is all about making our characters come to life with color.

We'll talk about how to choose the right colors so they fit our character's personality and design

WEEK 4

LET'S TURN IT AROUND!

 
 
 
 
 

Turn-arounds are a common tool for productions out there so it's an important topic to cover in every character class.

Although this is a very technical topic, we'll go through some approaches to make turn arounds easy, fun and less daunting!

Tuition Includes:

  • Personalized feedback on student assignments

  • Access to the class discord to ask questions about the homework

  • Access to recordings for 12 months after the class is finished

  • Exciting extracurricular activities! :D


 

 
  • Class meets once a week via Zoom - Class is recorded

  • Homework is to be uploaded to Google Drive folder

  • Students have access to pre-recorded demos, class recordings, and lecture notes for 12 months after class ends

  • Recorded critiques will be provided if there isn't enough time to go over everyone's work in class

Prerequisites

 
 
  1. Must have basic design and drawing skills. This is a design focused class, so students are expected to know the basics of form, anatomy and have ideally designed characters before and/or practiced life drawing.

  2. Must be dedicated, allocate decent hours for homework and turn it in the night before the next class. This is a homework and feedback heavy class. Please make sure you are able to invest the time and energy needed for it (aprox. 10+ hrs per week)

  3. Must have a drawing software to perform their assignment (Adobe Photoshop, Procreate, Clip Studio Paint...) Traditional media is also accepted for first explorations, students using traditional media must have a way to scan their work, ideally a dedicated printer scanner

  4. Must have a computer with microphone (camera optional)

  5. Must be able to access Google Drive to upload homework

  6. Should be comfortable using Discord to view/upload files and participate in text and/or voice discussions

  7. Must do the Week 0 Assignment before the first class

  8. Please know that every weekly lesson is going to use the knowledge from previous weeks. It's very important to finish all of your homework on time in order to gain the improvements you desire! c:

CANCELLATION & REFUND POLICY

 

CLASS RESCHEDULING & CANCELLATION

If you prefer a refund, they are available as long as it is 21 days or more before the start date of the class, as there is a week 0 assignment for this course.
After the request, the refunded amount will be of the total of the class MINUS a $30 US refunding fee.

 
​NO TRANSFERS OF REGISTRATION
It is imperative to comprehend that the transfer of registration is categorically disallowed. This prohibition extends to transfers to subsequent terms, alterations in class timings, and substitution with another individual.
 
USAGE OF STUDENT WORK
Enrollment in this course confers permission to this course to utilize student work produced during the course for promotional purposes. Credit will be accorded for any student work featured in promotional materials.
